Considering Jagmeet Singh’s rise on Canada’s political horizon as an inspiring factor for youth, who aspire to join active politics, the Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) hailed the Canadian Sikh, who would head a major federal political party.
The newly elected SYP youth head, Paramjit Singh Mand, said, “The credit goes to Canadian society, which is open, advanced, politically mature and democratic in real sense. The people of Canada have reposed faith in his leadership.”
“A young, energetic, baptised and devout Sikh elected to lead the Canada’s New Democratic Party is really encouraging and promising development,” he added.
“Being a public figure, his elevation on the international fora will help in addressing the identity crisis to some extent,” he said.
“The 38-year old politician, Jagmeet Singh, stands for liberty, equality, rights and justice for all. He has been vocal against the mass killings of Sikhs in New Delhi in 1984,” he added.
“We, the youth from Punjab, feel proud on his success and wish he may reach at the pinnacle to serve his country and its people,” he said.
Back home in Punjab, Mand who did his MSc in environmental sciences from Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), has urged youth to come forward and join politics to cleanse it from nepotism, exploitation and dirt.
He said theirs group had resolved not to indulge in any direct electoral participation, however, they would certainly play a significant role by intervening in all social, religious and political debates that affected the present and future of the people.
